It has been difficult to find information on the Southport Turkish Baths Company since its records at The National Archives (PRO) have been destroyed as part of a random file destruction programme.

It is mentioned in some editions of Kelly's Lancashire directory as being the proprietors of the Turkish Baths at Albert Place. But ownership is also ascribed, sometimes in the same directory, to the Southport Baths Company Limited.

There are at least three possible explanations which are worth considering.

In the first case the company might have been set up with the object of purchasing the Albert Place establishment from its proprietor, John Lindsay. In such a situation the ownership ascribed in Kelly to the Baths Company, rather than to the Turkish Baths Company, might just be a mistake caused by unfamiliarity with the name of the new company. The latter would then have run the Turkish Baths from 1890 until some time between 1902 and 1905.

Or perhaps the Turkish Baths Company was set up to lease the baths from their new owner, and then ran them during the same period.

But the most likely scenario would be for the Southport Baths Company to have set up a wholly owned subsidiary with the aim of purchasing the Turkish Baths. This would have been eminently sensible since they were located next door to the Victoria Baths which the company already owned. If this had been the case, then the Baths Company would have reverted to its own name between 1905 and whenever, between 1910 and 1913, the Victoria Baths were taken over by Southport Corporation.
