At its meeting on 16 February 1875, The Retreat's Committee of Management instructed its architect, Edward Taylor (c.1829–1908), to work with the new Superintendent Robert Baker in drawing up plans for a Turkish bath at a cost not to exceed £1,400 including equipment and furnishing.
