Welcome to the pages related to my book

Book jacketWelcome to these pages designed specially for readers of my book Victorian Turkish Baths. It is now, unbelievably, ten years since it was published. Unfortunately it is not possible to add new material to the printed book. So, although there has been quite an interval since I added new pages to the website, I am starting to do so again, and that is now where all new material will be found.

But I have used the website—and continue to use it—to try to correct errors as they come to light, or to make minor adjustments to the text—even adding an occasional image.

Here, the pages relating  specifically to the book are arranged in six sections, reached using the six red links below.

1. Linked pages. Here  are the thirty direct links to pages on the website which are signposted by the symbol § in the book. Each one leads to an illustrated article, or to other related information. They are arranged in page order for ease of access while you are reading.

2. Pictures that didn't make it. Inevitably, however many illustrations authors would like to see in their books, there are constraints. There comes a time when there is just not enough space to include them all—or at least not enough space where it is needed. Here are the pictures that didn't make it, for you to enjoy now.

3. Amendments and revisions. It seems, unfortunately, that however carefully one attempts to check one's text, some errors will inevitably remain. Here you will find corrections for those which have come to light. Please do contact me if you find other errors so they too can be corrected.

4. New information and updates. Sometimes information appearing in the book requires updating because new information has come to light. Here are the updates so far added.

5. Reviews and readers' comments. The extremely favourable res-ponse to the book's publication has been most pleasing. Especially appreciated is the point made by several reviewers that the book would be found interesting to a general readership, and not just to those in academia. Here are extracts from some often quite lengthy published reviews, to which have been added some of the comments made by the book's readers.

6. Citations. It is always pleasing to discover that something one has been working on has been found helpful or interesting—or even worth criticising. Publications which cite the book cover an extremely wide, and sometimes surprising, range of subjects.
