Advertisement for Hand Sapolio soap, c.1905

Advertisement for Sapolio Hand Soap, c.1907

An advertisement for Hand Sapolio soap which was popular around the turn of the century. It is, of course, nonsensical to suggest, as the manufacturers do in the illustration, that any soap was used in a plunge pool. However, the advertisement does show that the Turkish bath was generally associated with cleanliness and healthy living.
