Restored frigidarium at Leamington Spa, 1999

  

The frigidarium of the Leamington Spa Turkish baths at the very heart of the new library, museum and arts building and, in 1999, restored to its former glory. It is a room with strong Islamic influences in its style, colouring and stained glass. Some of the glass is the restored original, the rest is newly made to complement it by artist and designer William Nichol. The original paint work, tiles and brickwork have been uncovered and the original decorative scheme followed.

The full measure of the sympathetic restoration of this part of the old Turkish baths can best be seen by comparing the old with the new.
