SS Adriatic: souvenir biscuit tin showing the cooling-room

Biscuit tin

The tin, designed to hold biscuits manufactured by Carr & Co Ltd of Carlisle, measures 7.5 x 9.5 x 4.5 cm and its hinged lid has a metal fastener at the front.

Around the side of the tin are four vignettes of scenes on board the ship. In addition to the cooling-room (above and below) are shown a lounge, a dining room, and a bar.

The cooling-room on the tin

Although the condition of the tin today is not as good as it was ninety or so years ago when it was made, it is still possible, by ignoring the small grey spots, to get a good idea of how the room looked after the post-war refurbishment.
