Abraham Walter Jarvis

Born in Montgomeryshire in 1825, Jarvis early studied electricity and magnetism and became what was known as a medical galvanist, a practitioner of what physicians called a quack therapy. He nevertheless became well known for his ability to aid sufferers of rheumatism and sciatica .

In 1880 he became the first lessee of the Charles Street Turkish Baths in Cardiff where he stayed until 1887 when the proprietors, the Cardiff Electro Bath Company Limited, sold the company to J James, the owner of a Turkish baths in Nottingham.
