Lists in the directory
include the addresses of all Turkish baths so far identified in the British Isles,
even though all but a few have long since closed.
Gradually, as more information is added to the site, each of these entries will be linked
to its own descriptive article. Until then, some of the entries will be linked to chronologies,
while others will simply show the first and last dates of
any information known about them.
In addition to the directory
of baths in the British Isles, there is a brief checklist of some
Victorian Turkish baths located overseas.

British Isles as it was in the 19th century, and also to
a supplementary menu display. Both provide access to the lists of
Turkish baths.

Section
A comprises stand-alone Turkish baths open
to the public. These are listed first by country, and then arranged
alphabetically by name of place, with London baths being grouped
separately. It is hoped that this section will become as comprehensive as
possible.
Section
B, on the other hand, comprises only a
selection of establishments. These are usually part of a larger
undertaking (eg, a hydro, or hospital), or else they are not
open to the public (eg, they are in private houses or in members'
clubs). Also included are some slightly more unusual Turkish baths, such
as those built for the treatment of animals, or for passengers on ocean
liners.
Section
C is the checklist of some Turkish baths outside the British Isles.
No attempt will be made to make this list exhaustive. Establishments
are added as and when sighted and are not specifically sought.
